5 ways to be Instantly Happier

(and therefore healthier)

Sometimes being happier is just a moment away. Today I am sharing with you a shortlist that can change the way that you think and ultimately, how you live your life. The “attitude of gratitude” has great power and can take your life from ho-hum to nothing short of fantastic. Try to do at least two of these things today to start feeling and living better.

Be Grateful and Record It

Identifying what you are thankful for in your life is an awesome way to feel better about yourself and improve your attitude. A few lines written in a journal or just on your calendar is all it takes. Don’t have a pen and paper handy? No worries, in this age of smartphones, you can download a free Notepad app such as ColorNote (the one I use) Once you get in the habit of this, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can turn complaints into gratefulness.

Engage in Something You Enjoy

Carve out a few minutes daily to spend some doing something you love. Read some of a favorite book, engage in a hobby, listen to some music or just take a walk. Don’t let the day-to-day take over and leave you running on empty. Taking a little time each day to recharge and reinvigorate can make the rest of the day less draining and more enjoyable. More enjoyment means more happiness.


It can be as simple as taking a walk around the block or a bike ride. If you have a dog, Rover will be grateful as well to share your activity! Exercise is a stress reducer and it gives you time to think and decompress plus your body will release endorphins with exercise that make you happy-naturally.

Reach Out to Your Tribe

Now it is more important than ever to keep in touch with friends and family. The past few years have been tough and “normal” has gone away. Make a phone call. Text a friend. Meet for lunch. It is easy to forget the connections you have to the people you treasure most. Take a few minutes to catch up.

Do for Others

You might be surprised how good it feels to help someone else. You can do as little as taking a few things to the local donation resale store to giving to a church to organizing a coat drive. There are dozens of opportunities to give to others and it doesn’t have to be money. Just Google “volunteer near me” and there you will have a list of organizations that could use some of your time.

Add some of these ideas to your routine and I’ll bet, suddenly you will have a song in your heart and a little more spring in your step!
